A New Performance Patch For Ys IX: Monstrum Nox Is A Great Reminder For You To Try An Ys Game

A surprise patch has dropped for the PC version of the action RPG that many missed out on last year, Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, which makes now would be a perfect time to get acquainted with the series. While working on the upcoming localization of Trails From Zero (another Falcom game you should keep your eyes on), PH3 developer Peter "Durante" Thoman discovered how to increase CPU performance in that game. After finding promising results in Trails From Zero, he brought the technique over to Ys IX. Lo and behold, there was an impressive frame rate boost with the same implementation, with a 25% increase in parts of the game where the CPU can bottleneck performance. The update proved stable enough in testing to push it live for everyone playing the Steam version. Here are the full patch notes f...

Right, the figures he bought for $100k.Image: GrailMonster / Funko / KotakuOn May 5, a man in Glendale, California met up with another man to buy from him a sealed two-pack of ultra-rare Funko Pops for $100k cash. This deal, the first six-digit Funko Pop sale ever recorded, is believed to be the largest in Funko Pop collecting history, and it might just be the start of bigger deals to come. What are Funko Pops? Well, you likely already know what they are. But for those who have been living under a rock or who have never walked into a store that sells comics, books, or video games, let me help. Funko Pops (often just called Pops) are small vinyl figures with big heads. Most of the figures are designed to look like various chara...

Belarusian Devs Delay Cyberpunk Game Due To Ongoing War In Ukraine

Image: Sad Cat StudiosThe forthcoming cyberpunk game Replaced won’t make its planned 2022 release. Today, developer Sad Cat Studios announced the side-scrolling platformer is now planned for next, citing the ongoing war in Ukraine as the cause.First unveiled at last year’s Xbox E3 showcase, Replaced is a 2.5D game that casts you as an AI program trapped inside a human body. An early gameplay trailer showed off crunchy combat and tight platforming, all set in a futuristic city done up with high-def pixel art. Among a showcase featuring the likes of Starfield, Halo Infinite, and other splashy first-party Xbox games, Replaced stood out due to its striking art style and an irresistibly catchy earworm.“The Belarusian-based studio working on the game, Sad Cat Studios, has a team of talented deve...

Crab Soulslike Dev Explains Nintendo World Showcase ‘Selling Out’ Joke

Screenshot: Aggro CrabDozens of games were shown during Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase earlier this month, but only one featured a crab heading out in search of treasure, sword in claw, and taking on the undersea world. The Switch game in question, Another Crab’s Treasure, sounded perfectly niche, but its developers at Aggro Crab pitched it as “selling out.” They were only half joking.“Previously, Aggro Crab released Going Under and it didn’t make us rich so this time we’re selling out and giving the people what they want: crabs,” one of the designers, Caelan Pollock, said during the Nintendo Showcase. The studio described Another Crab’s Treasure as a 3D soulslike in which players level up by fighting other crabs and stealing their trash to use as armor. The punchline was the team’s ironic...

Star Wars Celebration kicks off tomorrow in Anaheim, Calif. I've had the pleasure of attending this show a few times over the years, and find it to be joyous, exciting, and one of the greatest places to go for people watching, thanks to the wealth of stormtroopers, Jedi, and astromech droids roaming the halls. Replaced Is Delayed Until 2023, Studio Safety Prioritized In Wake Of Russia-Ukraine War

Remember Replaced, the atmospheric, futuristic action game revealed during last year’s Xbox Showcase? Set in a dystopian version of the ‘80s USA, Replaced chronicles the exploits of an AI living within a human body. The combat is reminiscent of some of the best sci-fi movies and games out there, including Blade Runner and Cyberpunk 2077. Exciting right? Well, sadly, Replaced has been delayed until 2023.  Publisher Coastink, parent company Thunderful, and developer Sad Cat Studios’ statement on Twitter reads (in its entirety) as follows: "Today we’re making the very difficult decision to delay Replaced until 2023.  The Belarusian-based studio working on the game, Sad Cat Studios, has a team of talented developers for Belarus and Ukraine. Unfortunately, the continued war in Ukraine has ...

My Little Pony-Inspired Fighter Them’s Fightin’ Herds Gallops To Consoles This Fall

After finding success on PC, 2D fighter Them’s Fightin’ Herds is making its way to consoles this fall. If the game reminds you of My Little Pony, it should. Them’s Fightin’ Herds is a spiritual successor to Fighting is Magic, an unlicensed fighting game based on the popular My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic series created by fans of the show (who appropriately call themselves Mane6). Before that game could officially launch, a big “cease and desist” from Hasbro forced Mane6 to rework the idea into an original title. However, Lauren Faust, the mastermind of Friendship Is Magic, admired the project and lent her artistic talents to design Them’s Fightin’ Herds’ colorful cast of four-legged combatants.  Them’s Fightin’ Herds sports a streamlined 4-button fighting system complete with com...
