You Can’t Play Overwatch 2 Right Now Because It’s Under Attack

Image: Blizzard Entertainment If you’ve been having trouble getting into Overwatch 2 on launch, you’re not alone. Blizzard president Mike Ybarra announced on Twitter that the Overwatch 2 servers are currently undergoing a “mass” distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack. This is likely the main culprit for the connection issues plaguing anyone who’s trying to log into the game. Overwatch 2 just launched today, and people have been reporting obscenely long wait times, with some sitting behind tens of thousands of players. There have been other launch issues, such as missing cosmetics, missing match histories, and buggy cameras. Weird errors are normal for a massive live service game launch. But someone trying to inflict a cyberattack on Overwatch 2 is not quite so common. The servers will ...

The world’s most popular website for online chess shared it with The Wall Street Journal, and is calling on some in-person matches, including Niemann’s victory over Carlsen, to be investigated further as well.Niemann had previously admitted to cheating in online matches twice, including once when he was 14 and once when he was 16. However, The Wall Street Journal now reports that based on Chess.com’s findings, the 19-year old grandmaster has actually cheated much more often than that, inc...

Overwatch 2 Review – A Heroic Return – Game Informer

Overwatch took the gaming world by storm when it launched in 2016, thanks to its well-balanced roster of unique heroes and terrific objective-based, first-person-shooting gameplay. The game’s popularity endured through the years thanks to a wealth of new content like characters, maps, cosmetics, and game modes, adding to the terrific foundation. However, once the content dried up for Overwatch, the public interest followed shortly afterward. Overwatch 2 represents the re-emergence of one of the top multiplayer games of the last generation, delivering a 5v5 format, a free-to-play structure, and a ton of new content. The result is an action-packed and enjoyable progression of the beloved hero-shooter franchise, but one that feels less revolutionary and more iterative than expected. The core...

Be Prepared For These 7 Overwatch 2 Gameplay Changes

Image: BlizzardSorry, the old Overwatch can’t come to the phone right now. She’s dead. Today, October 4 at 3 p.m. EST, Overwatch 2 will come to replace her, and the sun has long set on days of 6v6 and free-range characters not cloistered behind a battle pass. You probably have some questions. It’s a natural response to finding out that one of your games has been replaced by a body double with a nerfed butt. Your trepidation is understandable, and you should know what you’re getting into in case you need to start working on this year’s “Top 5 Butts In Overwatch” YouTube video as soon as possible. To ease you through this difficult (but, relatively to a real problem, still very fun) transition, I put together a list of seven gameplay changes to be aware of before you pick up Overwatch 2 for ...

Hyped VR Game’s Harrowing ‘Noose’ Sequence Ignites Debate Over Trigger Warnings

Screenshot: Stress Level Zero / KotakuContext is important. What happens in the lead-up to events provides insight into how and why they unfold as they do. But what if the context doesn’t come ‘til later? And what if there was zero warning for the traumatic event you were about to experience in a game? Questions like these, the line between artistic intent and players’ psychological wellbeing, have been at the center of a debate over Stress Level Zero’s latest VR game, Bonelab, which has a pretty unsettling campaign introduction. So unsettling, in fact, that some fans are now suggesting the sequence should have been skippable entirely.A sequel to the first-person virtual reality shooter Boneworks, Bonelab is a sandbox action-adventure romp that dropped on September 29 for the Meta Quest 2 ...

Exclusive First Preview – Garbage Pail Kids: Mad Mike And The Quest For Stale Gum

Introduction The year 1985 contained so many cultural touchstones: Queen’s legendary Live Aid performance, Coca-Cola’s infamous New Coke release, the first-ever WrestleMania, and much more. Likely the most crucial moment to readers of Game Informer was the debut of the Nintendo Entertainment System. The NES pulled the burgeoning industry out of the “video game crash” and introduced countless iconic characters and franchises. It seemed like every hit property received a game at the time. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Top Gun, DuckTales, Dungeons & Dragons, American Gladiators: the list goes on and on. However, one iconic brand shockingly never made the transition into a NES game. Garbage Pail Kids, which also debuted in 1985, was a trading card series that mixed the cuteness of the h...

Here’s A Canceled Zelda Tactics Game You Probably Don’t Know About

Screenshot: Nintendo / DidYouKnowGaming? / YouTubeI recently found out about a rejected pitch for a Zelda game inspired by Final Fantasy Tactics, and I find myself mourning for what could have been. Heroes of Hyrule was conceptualized as a DS game that combined tactical combat with puzzle-based exploration. Unfortunately, Nintendo scrapped Retro Studios’ idea before it ever saw the light of day. EXCLUSIVE Cancelled Zelda Game: Heroes of Hyrule - Ft. @ZeltikYouTube personality Shane Gill’s latest entry in his Did You Know Gaming series of videos investigating gaming secrets, trivia, and long-lost products shines a light on Heroes of Hyrule, which Retro Studios pitched to Nintendo in a failed effort in 2004. Gill sourced the information in his video from a 22-page design document and an inte...
