What is instant invite on Discord?

The Instant Invite feature allows Discord users to easily gather their friends on their servers. You will find this feature extremely useful in different situations.

Maybe you want to raid a certain dungeon in World of Warcraft with your 10 WoW friends? Maybe you just want to break into Area 51 and need a place where you can make all your plans? With the Instant Invite feature on Discord, you can do it in no time.

This article will show you how you can use this feature.

Discord 101: The Instant Invite Feature

As mentioned above, the Instant Invite feature allows you to add Discord friends to your server. To be more specific, it allows you to send them invitations that they can accept or decline.

Although using this feature is quite simple, we’ll show you what you can do to make it even easier.

Sending of invitations

In order to invite Discord friends to join your server, you will need to do the following:

  1. Open your Discord server that you want to invite your friends to.
  2. Click the Instant Invite icon next to your channel name.
  3. That will take you to the Instant Invite Dashboard from which you can send invites.

The invite panel contains the invite link and invite buttons. This link can be used to invite your Discord friends to that specific server. In other words, you can’t invite them to all of your servers using the same link. To invite Discord friends using this link, simply copy it and send it to your friends’ direct messages.

If you have not changed the initial settings, this link will be available for 24 hours. That means friends who receive this link will have one day to respond to the invitation. If they don’t click on the invite link before it expires, it would be the same as declining it. You can send them a new one after that time period has passed.

In addition to the invite link, you’ll see some invite buttons next to some of your Discord friends. The friends displayed are the ones you have most recently chatted with.

Just click the Invite button next to the friend you want to invite. They will immediately receive the invitation to join your server.

Use the search bar above to find other Discordians not shown in the Invite Panel box.

NOTE: You can also use a shortcut to send invites to your Discord friends. Simply right click on its icon and select Invite to Server. This will open another set of options from which you will need to select the appropriate server. You can do this from anywhere on Discord. If you don’t see the server you want, you need to enable the Create instant invite permission option for your role on that server.invite to server

Editing the invite link

As we briefly mentioned above, if you have never adjusted your invite link settings, they will default to all of their features. Adjusting this setting will give you more control over the invitations you send.

To access the Invitation Edit Panel, simply click on the Edit Invitation Link option. You’ll find it at the bottom of the Invitation Panel box.

The next section explains all the features you can adjust.

expire after

As the name suggests, this feature allows you to set the duration of the invitation. Its default value is 24 hours.

You can choose between 24 hours, 12 hours, 6 hours, one hour and 30 minutes. So if you choose 12 hours, your Discord friends will have that time to click the link before it expires.

maximum uses

The Max Uses feature allows you to set how many times your invite link can be clicked. The maximum number you can choose for this feature is 100 uses. You can also set this feature to have no limit.

Your other options are 50, 25, 10, 5, and 1.

Temporary Membership

The Temporary Membership function is located below the previous two. If you enable this option, members who have recently joined your server will be automatically kicked out when they go offline. This only applies if those members don’t have any roles assigned.

Create a permanent invitation

You can create an invitation link that lasts forever if you use the features mentioned above correctly. This is a pretty nifty Discord trick you can use to avoid worrying about link length.

Here’s how to set up its features to create a standing invite:

  1. Expire After should be set to Never.
  2. The maximum usages should be set to Unlimited.
  3. Deactivate Temporary Membership (optional).

Those settings will create an invite link that has endless uses.

To save everything, you’ll need to click Generate a new link at the bottom of the Edit Panel.

NOTE: To avoid unplanned invitees on your server, you will need to be very careful who you send the invite link to. You should keep in mind that anyone can enter your server if they have the correct link.
