The new Movistar is already rolling: Sosa for the Giro, Valverde seeks to say goodbye with triumphs and Mas wants another podium

Movistar Team, the longest-running and most recognized cycling team in the international cycling squad, celebrated together with Telefnica this Thursday the presentation of the teams that will represent them in their twelfth sponsorship campaign. It will be the 43rd year of a team born in 1980 and that, after almost 1,000 victories -they are only five away from reaching that figure-, will continue fighting for great goals in 2022 that starts with an act before the media and fans held in digital format . A press conference and a public event broadcast by #Vamos (exclusive sports channel for Movistar+ clients), as well as on the Movistar Team YouTube channel, served to publicize the faces of the 53 members of the blue team.

Jos Mara lvarez-Pallete, Executive President of Telefnica, welcomed the attendees to an event where, for the first time, three templates were presented on the Vera stage (Almera), the venue for the event next to the Movistar+ plats in Madrid. “I want to remember two great professionals and teammates who sadly left us last year, Gary Baos and Jess Hoyos, to whose family and friends I send all my love and warm memories. For us, the Movistar Team represents much more than just a team cyclist. It is a true image of our values, which include effort, the ability to excel, work and commitment. That is why we are proud that you are part of the Telefnica family. Despite the fact that circumstances have forced us to carry out this event virtually, I am looking forward to welcoming you, especially the new additions, to Distrito Telefnica very soon. We put in your hands our main brands, and above all, our illusion. We ask you the same thing as always: honor the brand in every training session and every competition”.

The 2022 presentation of the Movistar Team served to demonstrate, once again, the strong association of values and objectives between Telefnica and its main sponsor. Equal opportunities and teamwork, represented by road captains such as Imanol Erviti -also present at the event- and the strength of a women’s team that has risen to the top-3 of the world ranking in just four years. The commitment to innovation, expressed in the work of the team’s partners and the arrival, in 2021, of Telefnica Tech, with Big Data as the protagonist. The promotion of awareness campaigns, both for cyclists and drivers, about the importance of mutual respect on the road, under the slogan #RodamosJuntos. And the great commitment to sustainability, promoted in the last two years by the Movistar Team and which has received the support of its sponsor; the applause of the International Cycling Union, which places the team as an example; and the Seal of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition of the Spanish government.

Telefónica, a great supporter of Spanish cycling with its sponsorships of the Movistar Team and also of the Royal Spanish Cycling Federation, with the ‘Women in Bike’ program as its main drive, wants to continue betting on bringing this sport closer to the public like no one else does, and to premiere, in the near future, the third season of the documentary series ‘El Día Less Pensado’. The 2021 campaign of the men’s and women’s telephone teams will be the protagonist of this new installment.

The Movistar Team starts its 2022 season, in relation to its road team, in less than a week, with the debut of its men’s team in the Challenge de Mallorca next Wednesday 26.
