Is Pokémon Legends: Arceus The video begins by showing off the beautiful fields and meadows of Hisui, which will eventually become known as the Sinnoh region, before delving into some gameplay details.
After showing some snippets of the region, it’s explained how you’ll collect raw materials to use for crafting. Items that can be crafted include lures, healing potions, smoke bombs, and the creation of the “mysterious” invention known as a PokeBall. Your Pokémon team can also help you collect these materials, but most can be found by breaking rocks, picking plants, and defeating or catching Pokémon in the wild.
After the creation segment, the video changes to focus on Pokémon that you can catch in the wild. There will be many creatures, and weather conditions and time of day will determine which ones are out there. Different species also have different temperaments. Some, like Bidoff, will ignore you when you get close, while others, like Starly, are more skittish and will run away.
Some Pokemon, like Shinx, are aggressive and will attack. If you fail to catch an aggressive Pokémon on your first try, it will become more alert and any PokeBalls you throw at it will be deflected. So to catch a Pokémon in this state, you will have to fight it. Some aggressive Pokémon will deal damage to you, and if you take enough damage, you’ll pass out and lose some of your items.
In the game, you will be part of the Survey Corps that has the mission to catalog and investigate all the Pokémon that live in the region. Not only will you need to catch all kinds of Pokemon, but you’ll also need to watch them use certain moves or display certain behaviors. When you’re done in the field, you’ll go to Professor Laventon to turn in your survey report, which will then update your Pokedex and increase your rank within the party. You will also receive funds from Professor Laventon that can be used to purchase more materials and items to help you with your research.
Because the region is so vast, it would be troublesome to constantly traverse it on foot. This is where special Pokémon come in. These creatures will help you get where you need to go. Wyrdeer, which is a fluffy white version of Stantler, will help you navigate the land faster. Then there is the regional version of Braviary that will help you travel through the skies. The regional version of Basculin, Basculegion, will take you across rivers and seas.
There is also Jubilife Village, which acts as a hub for the Galaxy Expedition team. This is a group of people who study and live in the Hisui region. There are several corps in town, and this area will be your hub for your surveying missions. After receiving a quest or quest, and then preparing for it, you will head out of town to explore one of the various areas in the region. After your inspection mission, you will return to the village and once again prepare for another task. The town also has its own space, and there are different services available, such as clothes, crafts, and a trading post where you can trade Pokémon with others.
The video goes on to describe how the various quests and requests work, shows a segment on battling Pokémon, gives an overview of customization, and introduces noble Pokémon like Kleavor, the Lord of the Woods.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus comes out on January 28 for Switch.
