New information suggests that PS5 could receive backward compatibility with PS3

If there’s one thing no one can deny, it’s the gigantic legacy of great video games that PlayStation consoles have left us over the years, which is why it is a real shame that it is sometimes so difficult for us to access titles from past generations today due to the limited backward compatibility of the newer Sony machines with the older ones.

PS5 backwards compatibility with PS3?

Fortunately, This week we learned that Sony had registered a patent filed by Mark Cerny, the architect of PlayStation, which pointed to the creation of a system that would allow PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 to play PlayStation, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 games, something increasingly demanded by many players and by all those interested in the preservation of the video game.

While this still doesn’t mean that we’re really going to have full backwards compatibility (we’ll have to wait for an official announcement to find out if it finally happens or not), now some players are warning that your PlayStation 5 consoles are displaying PS3 games on PlayStation Store.

While this shouldn’t be anything unusual or extraordinary, the detail that makes the difference is that they have a price. Until now, PS3 games did not show any price in the console store and clicking on them took us to their PS Now page, PlayStation’s cloud gaming service. Also, there are titles that are appearing this way, like Dead or Alive 5, which are not included in the European subscription.

Other players have also found this way Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands Y Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones. Those, none have managed to buy any game yet, since it gives an error when trying to access its pages.

How can you suppose, this has raised suspicions that it may be something related to the possibility of including backwards compatibility with PS3 on PS5, although it is also possible that it is a simple error or something related to the rumored Xbox Game Pass-style service that Sony could be preparing and whose code name would be Spartacus. Whatever it is, we will have to wait for the company to rule to clear up any doubts.
