Xbox Series sells 1 million units in the UK and records a record month

This week we have heard the news that Xbox Series It is the Xbox that is selling the best, since it hit the market last November 2020. Its success has also been noted in the United Kingdom: this past December these new Xbox exceeded one million units sold in a 30-day period that has been a record. However, the best-selling console was the Nintendo Switch; while PS5 enjoyed its second most successful month.

The higher the stock, the higher the sales

Stocks of Xbox Series X have been replenished little by little, which has allowed this month of December 2021 to enjoy its biggest month of sales since it debuted at the end of 2020. Since GamesIndustry.biz echo the data provided by GfK: a total of 560,000 consoles were sold in December, with Switch taking the top spot. This barrage of sales generated around 200 million pounds.

Nintendo’s hybrid platform enjoyed a 6% increase in its sales during November, which in itself turned out to be a very beneficial month for the console: during Black Friday it enjoyed great success, thanks to the pack where it is sold together with Mario Kart 8: Deluxe. In fact, FIFA 22 and Switch were the great winners of this campaign in Spain. This momentum continued to be felt in December, when the console was the best-seller in the UK.

Following Switch we find the Xbox Series S and X consoles: Redmond’s new machines have registered a 108% increase in sales, so December 2021 has become his most beneficial month (surpassing even its launch month in November 2020). As we say, these numbers could be achieved thanks to the replenishment of the stock of version X. As pointed out from GfK, more than a million Xbox Series consoles have already been sold in the United Kingdom.

In this way, PS5 took third place last December. Still, too has enjoyed a 28% increase in its sales compared to the month of November. It was the second largest month for PS5 and the most successful outside of its launch period. Out of stock, due to the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, continues to be a problem for next-gen consoles.

The hardest to find

“When you think about trying to get an Xbox or a new PlayStation on the market right now, they are really hard to find. And it’s not because the offer is smaller than ever. The offer is actually as great as ever. It is that the demand is exceeding the supply for all of us, “explained Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, in an interview with The New York Times Last monday. “At this point, we have sold more of this generation of Xbox, which is Xbox Series X and S, than any previous version of Xbox. So that’s our job. bring supply there to meet that demand“.
