How to view your iTunes purchase history

If you’ve been using iTunes for a while, your purchase history is likely to be quite long and varied. Although iTunes has been separated into Apple Music, Apple TV, and Apple Podcasts, you can still find your purchase history in iTunes. If you want or dare, you can view your iTunes purchase history using the following procedures below.

Managing your purchases allows you to redownload previously purchased items, make sure no one else has obtained your username, and see how much you’ve spent over the years. If you want to see your iTunes purchase history, it will only take a couple of seconds.

  1. Opened “iTunes” and sign in with your Apple ID.
  2. Using the Menu bar at the top, choose “Account -> View my account”.
  3. In the “Purchase History” section, click “See everything.”
  4. Purchases from the last 90 days appear on the screen by default.
  5. If you want to dig deeper into your purchase history, click the red caret icon up and down to select a year.
  6. Choose the year you want to view from the drop-down list.

  8. To further filter the list, click the red up and down caret icon that just appeared in the second filter option.
  9. Choose what you would like to see.
  10. The newly filtered shopping list will appear. You can click “More” on any entry to see more information.

Depending on the number of purchases you’ve made, it may take a while for the filtered history list to load. Your history includes any purchases you have made such as movies, music, apps, etc.. you will also see all purchases free too. Also, any Blu-ray or DVD movies that you added to iTunes using a code will also appear., like the following example.

To get a full picture, you really need to have iTunes installed on your computer. If you don’t have access to it at the moment, you can check some details with an iPhone or iPad.

  1. Go to Settings and iTunes and App Store.
  2. Enter your Apple ID if asked.
  3. Check your payment information and you should be able to access purchases from the last 90 days. Apparently this process doesn’t work on all devices, so your mileage may vary.

Once your shopping list is presented to you, you can extract a little more information if you want.

Select the gray arrow next to the selected purchase to see more information about it. It will show the time and date, the order number, the exact item, the cost, and other pertinent information. From there, you can continue or report a problem with a purchase.

Managing discrepancies in your iTunes purchase history

If you are looking at your iTunes purchase history to see if your account may have been compromised, you can see here exactly what was purchased and when. If you see something that is not right, check with your credit or debit account to see if the money was taken. If it was, select the Report a problem button next to Done.

Before reporting a problem to Apple, it makes sense to check if there is another reason for the discrepancy. There are some statements that may mean that your record doesn’t look the way you think it should. They include authorization retention, delayed charge, subscription renewal, or a Family Sharing purchase.

An authorization hold It is where your bank holds a purchase to check its validity. They may contact you to make sure it is legitimate. Usually this only happens when you first buy from iTunes or if something marks it on the bank’s systems.

A delayed charge it is often the same as an authorization hold. Something inside your bank is delaying the payment. This is rare and generally very temporary.

A subscription renewal it may appear in your purchase history as a result of someone joining Family Sharing. This is a common query when someone who joins Family Sharing brings their subscriptions with them, which will appear in their purchase history.

A Family Sharing purchase it’s where someone at Family Sharing makes a purchase. You may not recognize it, so you will need to check with your family to verify.

If you see something you don’t recognize in your iTunes purchase history, and you’ve verified those conditions, report the problem to Apple immediately. Visit the Apple Fees Information Page for more information on managing payments.

You can also remove the payment method if you see that there is activity at this time. You can always add it back later.
