Battlefield 2042’s main subreddit has gotten so toxic it can be shut down

It’s been a rough couple of months for battlefield 2042 and your community. Following the game’s disappointing release, the series’ most disgruntled fans tore it apart.

This, as is often the case, has unfortunately also been extended to DICE developers. Since the launch of Battlefield 2042 in November, some of those who worked on the game have been bombarded with insults and the usual pack of abuse on social media. His tweets would become memes on the game’s largest subreddit.

Just this week, when everyone starts to return from vacation, the Battlefield 2042 Subreddit We start the year with a new obsession. EA’s director of shooter communication Andy McNamara tweeted about his frustration that fans on Reddit and Twitter were expecting something from DICE immediately after the holidays, which was never realistic.

“Guys, people have to rest. We have things going, but we have to find out what is possible. Let’s come back from break and go back to work. I love you guys, but these expectations are brutal. The things they want take time to achieve, design and execute, ”McNamara wrote in a deleted Tweet.

Many on the Battlefield 2042 subreddit took that Tweet and followed it, spawning countless memes and threads that poked fun at so-called “brutal expectations.” It’s gotten so out of control that you couldn’t escape them, forcing the subreddit mods to announce that they are willing to go so far as to block the entire subreddit if the toxicity can’t be contained.

“It’s an understatement when we say that this subreddit has become incredibly toxic.” read the message.

“It’s almost impossible to have a simple discussion without name calling, and it’s really starting to hurt the entire Battlefield community, and each one of us who is a part of it.

“We moderators have always been very relaxed when it comes to moderation: we do our best to make everyone’s voice heard, no matter how upset or angry, but we have always been of the position that insults or harassment is directed at any individual ”. it will never be tolerated. We will do whatever it takes to reduce that kind of toxicity. If that means closing for a period of time, we will. “

Pausing the subreddit is the last resort. Before that, the mods will try to lock the suspicious threads ahead of time to prevent things from getting to the nuclear option. That said, the status of the Battlefield 2042 subreddit isn’t surprising. It has a large community of fans of the series who have voiced their opinions on the game, its design direction, and several incredibly clear issues. Anything that comes out of EA and SAYS that doesn’t exactly line up with your expectations is sure to be a meme.

McNamara has since apologized for his previous tweets, but the relationship is clearly not in a good place. “It seems that my message was not clear” he said.
