With a catalog full of jewels such as Super Mario 64 Y The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the Nintendo 64 managed to become one of the most legendary consoles in the history of video games. If you are a fan of such hardware and still keep it lovingly in your home, then you will be happy to know that very soon you will be able to enjoy a one-of-a-kind music experience.

We say this because, at a time when streaming platforms like Spotify reign in the music industry, a German artist decided to appeal to nostalgia and release his next album on cartridges for the popular Nintendo console. And no, this is not a joke.

Meet R64, the musical album that you can listen to on your Nintendo 64

Specifically, we are talking about Remute, a 39-year-old German musician responsible for R64, an album that will be released on Nintendo 64 cartridges on March 25, 2022. The project includes 15 songs, which span genres such as electro pop and techno.

Fortunately, Remute confirmed that the cartridge for their new album will have no region restrictions and will work on all NTSC-U, NTSC-J and PAL models of the console.

The artist behind this particular project emphasizes that the album will not be an MP3 player embedded in the cartridge with poor quality WAW files. Instead, it promises that all R64 songs are played in real time by the Nintendo console. This was made possible by Rasky, a developer who created a sound engine and user interface.

This new album, which has a cost of $ 39.99 EUR, will be part of a trilogy. The remaining 2 albums will be released for the Game Boy Advance and Sega Dreamcast later this year. If it caught your attention, you can reserve your copy of R64 and listen to samples of the songs if you visit this page.

Finally, it’s worth noting that Remute is no stranger to releasing albums on unorthodox hardware. In the past, it has released music projects on Sega Genesis, Gameboy, and SNES cartridges.
