Photos from the set of Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece reveal the first look at several large pirate ships being built.
One piece Photos from the set reveal a first look at pirate ships for Netflix’s live-action show. The original anime series is based on the manga series of the same name by Eiichiro Oda and follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a boy who acquires the properties of rubber after accidentally eating a Devil Fruit. With his newfound powers, Luffy sets sail with his crew, nicknamed the Straw Hat Pirates, to explore the Grand Line in search of the titular mythical treasure to become the next Pirate King.
Netflix’s live-action adaptation was first announced in 2017, though the cast recently began meeting last November. Who Killed Sara? The star, Iñaki Godoy, will play the role of the main protagonist, Luffy. He is joined by Street of fearEmily Rudd as the Straw Hat Pirates’ navigator, Nami, and Boiling pointTaz Skylar as the crew chef, Sanji. Pacific Rim: Uprising star, Mackenyu and Green leaf Star Jacob Gibson round out the cast as the crew’s fighters, swordsman Roronoa Zoro and sniper Usopp, respectively.
Now, new photos from the set appear to reveal a first look at the pirate ships being built for Netflix’s live action. One piece Show. While production has yet to begin on the Netflix live-action adaptation, these new photos from the set provide a window into the pre-production process for the show at Cape Town Film Studios in South Africa, where the One piece Series will also be filmed. While the photos were taken from a distance, the ships appear to resemble the ones seen in the anime, one of them bears a striking resemblance to the Miss Love Duck, a large pink ship with a duck as a figurehead. There is also a larger ship still in the early stages of construction, the sheer size suggests it may be The Dreadnaught Saber.
There is always a great deal of apprehension among fans when such a beloved anime is translated into live action, even in the case of One piece with the original creator, Eiichiro Oda, who is serving as an executive producer on the Netflix series. Live action One piece is from the same production company, Tomorrow Studios, which was behind Netflix’s latest live adaptation of a popular anime series, Cowboy Bebop, which was canceled after just one season. With a little luck, One piece it won’t suffer the same fate when it debuts on the streaming service.
