Sales in Japan: Pokémon remakes continue to lead and Switch surpasses 23 million

Famitsu has published his estimate of video games and consoles sold in Japan which this time includes two weeks, from December 20 to January 2. During these last days of 2021, where we hardly found new releases, the best-selling video game was Pokemon Shiny Diamond / Shimmering Pearl, with more than 230,000 physical copies for Nintendo Switch. The remakes of these deliveries of Pokémon have been seven weeks, since the day of its launch, being the best sellers in the country.

Switch surpasses 23 million consoles sold in Japan

With regard to consoles, we not only have to point out the already usual and incontestable leadership of Nintendo Switch, which is once again in the first position with 393,980 units sold among its three versions, but it should also be noted that the hybrid has passed another sales milestone by expanding its total of consoles sold to 23,125,427 units in Japan alone. This same week we also learned that in the Japanese market, throughout 2021, Switch has sold five times as many units as the rest of the consoles put together.

In this week’s ranking the second position is occupied by the family PS5, which has sold a total of 72,064 units, while Xbox Series X/S has placed 2,159 consoles in this period.
