Artist remakes scenes from Pokemon Journeys to look more like the original anime

A Pokemon anime fan redraws Pokemon Journeys screenshots to look like they were taken from the original Pokemon anime.

The Pokemon The franchise has a wide range of derivative products, but probably the most popular is the Pokemon anime, which started in 1997 and still airs today. Pokemon Travel, the 23rd season of the anime, seems to be serving as a massive callback to some of the anime’s most iconic moments. A Pokemon fan has used this as a starting point to create their own tribute to the Pokemon anime over the years – They edited screenshots of Pokemon Travel to make it look like they come from the original anime.

When the Pokemon The anime began, it had a very simple premise: the pre-adolescent protagonist Ash Ketchum has just received his first Pokémon, a grumpy Pikachu, and is preparing to explore the world of Pokémon. As the show continued, Ash caught a wide variety of Pokémon, traveled the land, and made many friends. Every few seasons, Ash said goodbye to his Pokémon and most of his companions to move to a new region that had just been revealed in the Pokémon games.

Pokemon Travel brought Ash back to Kanto and reconnected him with many of his old friends. However, he was also given a new companion, Goh, who appears to represent the mobile giant. Pokemon GO. Twitter user YinyangGio14 redrew four expressive screenshots taken from Pokemon Travel, most of which feature Ash and Goh, as if they were taken from the original anime series. The result highlights the differences in color, facial expressions, and design sensibilities between classic and modern anime.

The first screenshot shows Ash, Goh, and Pikachu studying their smartphones, while the second shows Ash, Pikachu, and Chloe watching Goh strike a fierce pose. The third shows Goh angrily demanding that a shy Ash tell him who Gary Oak is, Ash’s original rival, and the fourth shows Cynthia standing dramatically in front of her Garchomp. The four screenshots redraws show clear differences in art style, including faded colors and somewhat stiffer poses. Goh’s skin is noticeably darker, Pikachu has a duller shade of yellow, and Chloe’s hair is a bright pinkish-red rather than a subdued purple-red.

Perhaps the most important difference between Pokemon Travel Screenshots and redraws from the classic anime is the overall aesthetic. Pokemon Travel takes inspiration from cute and streamlined art from modern and modern anime Pokemon. YinyangGio14 redesigns take inspiration from the original Pokemon anime, which had cartoonish, expressive faces and more forced body language. In redraws, the positions of Pikachu and other Pokémon are often changed, foreshortening is reduced, and hand movements are simplified.
