The start of a new year means new opportunities to get a PS5 resupply. The holiday season is behind us, but demand for Sony’s next-gen console isn’t running out as the machine remains extremely elusive.
The good news is that Target is gearing up to sustain its first PS5 stock drop of 2022 this week, and it could be a big one. News of this upcoming PS5 resupply comes from Jake Randall, a full-time YouTuber and PS5 stock tracker, with seriously trusted sources at the national retailer. He’s suggested that Target will be holding its next PS5 restock in the next few days.
Target PS5 restocking (check stock)
Randall has claimed that some larger Target locations currently house up to 150-200 PS5 consoles. However, many stores only carry between 20 and 40 units. This may not seem like a large quantity, but the retailer has previously held stock with a smaller amount of inventory per store. If these stock numbers are accurate, it would still be one of Target’s biggest PS5 restocks to date.
Target PS5 Inventory Update 🎯 (Read all tweets for restock dates / times) Some stores, as you can see, already have 150 or even 200 disc consoles ready! However, many stores are between 20 and 40+ (still a good amount for the goal, but different than when each store had more than 100). (Part 1/5) pic.twitter.com/L2kQ2uwRbHJanuary 3, 2022
The exact date and time of this crash are currently unknown. Based on previous Target PS5 restocks, we expect it to take place in the second half of the week, with Thursday (Jan 6) and Friday (Jan 7) being the most likely dates. Historically, Target has always opened the order gate between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. ET. There is no reason to think that will change with this drop, as dozens of previous refills have followed this exact pattern.
While this upcoming PS5 resupply isn’t technically confirmed, there are definitely plenty of reasons to be optimistic that it actually happens. Jake Randall has extremely reliable sources at Target and has correctly called several Target deliveries in the past. However, until the news comes directly from Target, this notice should not be taken as official confirmation.

How to buy a PS5 at Target
First of all, make sure you have an account set up with your payment and address details stored. This is a vital step if you want to insure a PS5 during a resupply. Getting stocks in your basket is only half the battle; you do not want the console to run out while you enter your data. Make sure everything is pre-saved so you can pay in seconds.
Target is known for launching stocks in waves, usually going first with the PS5 Standard Edition and then continue with a refueling of the PS5 digital edition. So even if you go into retail and the PS5 is already sold out, it’s worth spending the extra time to see if you can catch a second wave.
Randall also suggests using alternative payment methods like PayPal, Apple Pay, or RedCard if possible. The advantage of these is that they use a separate payment portal that bypasses Target’s own servers that in the past collapsed under pressure from thousands of people trying to secure that coveted order confirmation email.
Target also has an app that can be used to try and secure a PS5. A good trick is to try to pay during a refill on both a desktop computer and a mobile device. It is recommended that if you manage to add the PS5 to your cart in one, you switch to the other to complete the payment. As long as you are connected, it will keep track of the contents of your cart.
Finally, at checkout, you can edit your location to select a store that has PS5s in stock if your local branch is out of stock. Occasionally doing this may prevent you from continuing through the checkout process, but if you encounter this problem, simply clear your browser cookies and try a second time.
