It’s not easy to top the leaderboards in Riot’s Valorant competitive mode. Many players have tried, but very few have managed to reach the radiant range, and for good reason.
If you are considering taking the arduous journey to be considered the best of the best, or if you are simply curious, you have come to the right place.
Find out what it takes to get to Radiant Rank and why “Radiant” and “Radianite” are not interchangeable on Valorant.
How to be radiant in Valorant?
Valorant took the gaming world by storm when it released worldwide in 2020. Like many online multiplayer shooter games before it, the game has a casual mode for players to use in a non-competitive setting. However, it is the ranked mode of the game where players queue up to demonstrate their mastery of the game’s relentless mechanics.
If you’re new to this mode, or just need a quick refresher, here’s how it works:
There are eight levels in the Valorant ranking system and each level has three sublevels except Immortal and Radiant. These last levels have only one sublevel each and are the first two in the ranking system. You have to work on each level and sublevel to get to the last one, Radiant.
For example, if you start at the lowest level, Iron, you must go through Iron 1, Iron 2, and Iron 3 to reach the next level. In this case, it is Bronze.
He would continue to work through each level and sublevel until he reached Immortal. This second to last level in the ranking system only has one level before reaching Radiant.
In total, you must work through 20 ranges (levels and sublevels) to get to the top level of the system: Radiant. Some players earn enough points and win enough matches to skip the sublevels completely, but that is an exception rather than a rule. Expect to fight your way through all 20 ranks to reach the top of the leaderboard.
This isn’t an easy ride though, so be prepared for a lot of blood, sweat, and possibly very real tears as you climb through the ranks.
To help minimize the number of tears of frustration you can shed to achieve your Radiant dream, check out some of the grading tips below:
1. Accuracy is everything
Like many competitive games, winning games is the single most important factor in ranking on Valorant. However, the system also takes What you win or lose a match on account. The more decisive the victory, the better it is and the more likely it is to advance to the next level.
2. Take the time to warm up
How often do you jump into games right after logging into the game? Taking the time to warm up is integral to any competitive field, be it a soccer game or an FPS shooter.
One of the easiest ways to warm up is to do a few races around the driving range. Make sure your accuracy is up to par, or practice moving around an environment to focus on the game. You can also use Deathmatches or DMs to warm up if you prefer your objectives to be a bit more “lively”.
However, keep in mind that you want to keep an informal mindset if you are using DM as a warm-up tool. The last thing you want to do is go into a competitive game with a negative attitude because your DMs went poorly.
3. Go Deeper When Clearing Angles
Looking and working angles is an important strategy in Valorant games, but you need to go one step further if you want to climb the ranks of Radiant. Recently, Rory “dephh” Jackson, a member of Dignitas esports, shared his advice on work angles on YouTube.
In the video, he advises players to work at deep angles when looking around corners. As he illustrated in a game clip, more of his body is exposed when he leans out to take out an enemy. The further you move away, the less body mass of your character is visible while looking.
Also, standing further behind a wall or deck can give you more options for movement should things go south.
How far back do you need to stand for optimal angles?
This professional league player stands up to the back wall to clear angles. It gives you the sight you need without revealing too much to enemies and tempting them to shoot for the head.
How to get free radiant points in Valorant?
There seems to be a bit of confusion between two similar terms in Valorant and some players are using these terms interchangeably, but this is not the case.
To clear things up, check out the differences between the two terms:
- Radiant – The highest rank in the Valorant ranking system
- Radianite – A form of currency used to update skins and purchase content
You can’t get free “Radiant Points (RP)” on Valorant because it doesn’t exist. However, it is possible to get free RP as a reward through BattlePass. BattlePasses rewards change each time, so the exact number of points may vary from pass to pass. If you don’t have the patience to earn RP through BattlePass, you can always purchase them from the store.
How difficult is it to get a radiant Valorant?
It is very difficult to reach the rank of Radiant in Valorant, but not impossible if you are willing to put in the effort to be the best player in your region.
One of the first things to focus on if you plan to rank up is consistently winning marksmanship duels. Valorant is all about precision and headshots are where that precision counts the most.
Unlike other FPS games, you can’t spray and pray and count it as a victory if your bullets finally defeat an enemy. That’s a recipe for instant frustration at every game.
The only way to get better at headshots is by practicing. There are no shortcuts around this intrinsic game mechanic.
Once you master the marksmanship duels and win them consistently, you will have to log in all the time to rack up those points. Count on playing two or three games a day to record practice time and rack up points for the next level.
Lastly, if you haven’t already, you need to focus on unlocking all of Valorant’s agents. No need to rank up to Radiant, however having a few favorite Agents on your list helps when you have to switch to one of your favorites.
What is Radiant doing in Valorant?
Radiant doesn’t necessarily “do” anything in Valorant, except that it gives you bragging rights for reaching the top of the leaderboards in your region. RadianitaOn the other hand, it allows you to unlock skin updates and other content in the in-game store.
How to use Radiant Points Valorant?
You may not be able to purchase skins or agents with RP, but you can unlock upgrades and weapon skin animations to give them additional flair. If you’re ready to spend your RP, check out the easy steps below:
- Start the game.
- Press the “Collection” tab on the main screen.
- Scroll to and select the weapon and skin you want to upgrade.
- Check the updates available in the right side panel.
- Buy the upgrade using your RPs.

How is radianite obtained in Valorant?
There are two ways to earn Radianite or RP points in Valorant:
You can get free RP using the Contracts activity in BattlePass. Completing levels 4 and 9 on the BattlePass also yields an additional 20 RP once you complete them.
Exchange of Valorant Points (VP)
If you have real world cash, you can simply exchange VP for RP. Note that you will have to spend a lot of Valorant Points for a handful of Radianite Points. For example, it costs 1,600 PV or $ 15 for 20 RP. This exchange produces enough RP for an appearance upgrade.
How many Radiant Valorant players are there?
As of March 2021, around 0.1% of Valorant players are classified as Radiant in their region, with just over 1% reaching Immortal rank. However, don’t let these numbers put you off. The leaderboards are designed this way for a reason and only the top 500 players per region will reach the rank of Radiant.
Most of the players are somewhere in the low to mid range levels with the largest distribution between Bronze 2 and Silver 1.
