Yasumi Matsuno is working on a new project, as revealed by Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of Final Fantasy and founder of Mistwalker. The information appears in an interview with Sakaguchi as part of the articles published by Japanese media such as Famitsu and 4Gamer where the creators talk about their expectations in 2022 and the last twelve months.
Specifically, 4Gamer asks Sakaguchi about the character of 2021 to which he replies that “Yasumi Matsuno seems to be writing a new story. I don’t know what kind of project it is but I sure have to watch out.”.
Matsuno is known for direct and write some of Square Enix’s best RPGs, which include Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together, Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story The Final Fantasy XII -although in the final stretch of the project he was relieved. He also wrote MadWorld from PlatinumGames and one of the stories of Terra Battle, Mistwalker mobile game. Is Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster with an expanded story?
Mistwalker recently released Fantasian on iOS devices under the Apple Arcade subscription service. Sakaguchi hinted that this could be his last game and that it may also be the last complete soundtrack of Nobuo Uematsu – known especially from the saga Final Fantasy– but in the interview he does not confirm that this is so.
Regarding Matsuno, he also does not mention if the game is something completely original or to take up any of his projects.
