According to Zhao, Eternals It could have ended very differently, as the original ending was rather bleak and not very hopeful:

“We had another ending that was really bleak. Bleak. I didn’t hate it, because I’m used to more melancholic movies. But I don’t think the public would have liked it. It used to end with everyone back on the ship, with erased minds and just going to another planet, as in The Twilight Zone”, Confessed the director.

The director spoke about that appearance in the post-credit scene

On the other hand, and here the spoilers begin, the director also spoke about the appearance of Harry Styles as Eros, who would have been more related to the aforementioned ending:

“Simply put, with that depressing ending, at some point I was going to be one of the Eternals on that ship,” Zhao said. And that didn’t quite work out. But he had wanted to bring Eros to the MCU. So I kept mentioning it to Kevin Feige every chance I got down the hall because I love the idea of Eros being another Eternal, another Ajak. “

The appearance of the character surprised all the fans

It is worth mentioning that Eros is Thanos’s brother in the comics and Zhao wanted to detail the differences with his version in the MCU:

“He is an Eternal, and was stationed on Titan; 10 of them were, as were the 10 Eternals on Earth, assuming Titan is also a host planet at some point. Now if you think about it, what influence could Eros have had on the inhabitants of Titan, the way Ajak has influenced people on Earth? And how has that affected Thanos?

In case you missed it: Nicolas Cage could return as Ghost Rider in the new movie Doctor Strange

Finally, the director offered an idea of what the character’s backstory would look like:

“For me, the backstory of Eros is that he defected, he said, ‘I’m not going to do this anymore.’ So he somehow got that sphere, which you saw in his hand, and he ran out and turned Pip into the troll. Arishem has been looking for him and he has only been a space outlaw. That is the character I had in mind, “he concluded.

Now we only have to wait to know what awaits the Eternals and Eros in the next Marvel movies.
