According to Microsoft, the broken update froze the Cumulative Update installations. Simply put, it means that the installation would stop at 24%. Anyone who has reported problems should install the latest update (KB5001078) before attempting to install the February 9 security update.
Those who have already installed the crazy KB4601392 update have a bit of work ahead of them and should take the following steps to fix it all:
- Restart your device and follow steps 1, 2 and 4a from then on “Reset Windows Update components manually”Help page.
- Restart the device again
- KB5001078 should be available to install from the “check for updates” section of the settings. Or users can wait for it to install automatically.
Once this is done, the latest cumulative update should be available to install without a problem. Anyone who hasn’t installed the failed update above shouldn’t have a problem now, as the working update is the only one available.
It is a story that is becoming too familiar to Windows users. Hardly a week goes by without Microsoft not having to do some kind of damage control because Windows 10 updates are causing problems.
We have recently heard reports of updates sending PCs to a endless start cycle, as well as causing the app crashes and the blue screen of death. In other words, it’s been a pretty terrible time for Microsoft and Windows users, and it makes you wonder how long this can realistically last.
Try not to delay updating your PC, because it is incredibly important to keep everything up to date. That is especially true in the case of security updates, as they will prevent your machine from being attacked or exploited by hackers and other cybercriminals.
