Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition not exactly a fan favorite product. It’s no secret that it hit stores with a ton of glitches, and the remastering job was a disappointment to boot. Now, a large section of the community will have another reason to hate this controversial collection.
As we told you, the physical edition of GTA: The Trilogy It suffered a slight delay, so it was not until December 17 that players were finally able to purchase it in stores. Of course, it was only a matter of time before it came to light that the PS4 version suffers from a significant restriction compared to its Xbox One counterpart.
In case you missed it: The physical version of GTA: The Trilogy does not include the maps of the games
As reported by Ben Turpin, an informant from Rockstar Games, the physical copies of the collection for PlayStation 4 cannot be updated to the version of PlayStation 5. This raised some eyebrows in the community, since it is possible to update both the physical and digital version from Xbox One to Xbox Series X | S at no additional cost.
Everyone can finally buy a physical version of the GTA Trilogy in most retail stores – but there’s a catch. You can’t upgrade to the PS5 version if you decide to pickup the physical version.
I strongly advise against buying it until the game is improved with more patches. pic.twitter.com/Y23mbJTRGc

So far, it is not entirely clear why this occurs. We must remember that it is possible to update digital copies of GTA: The Trilogy for PS4 to PS5 version without any problem. Given this, some users began to theorize that the restriction in the physical format may be a consequence of some error, so they contacted Rockstar Games technical support for answers.
However, and according to an agent in the customer service department, it is not a mistake and everything works as it should. Thus, Rockstar Games is aware of the restriction, which makes us wonder why it made the decision to block the upgrade for physical copies on the Sony console.
So, I have spoken to R* regarding the #GTATrilogy PS4 physical copy not containing a PS5 upgrade and according to them, they say it isn’t a bug. Though many support companies tend to use bots instead of people so take this with a grain of salt pic.twitter.com/szZeD6Wd0X
