In the video game collectibles market there is a bit of everything and small details can make the difference between a jewel and a game that no one wants. Such is the case with a copy of The Legend of Zelda which sold for almost $ 4000 USD thanks to a sticker from a ramen brand.
How it counts Kotaku, recently closed an auction on Yahoo, in which a copy of The Legend of Zelda for the Famicom Disk System it was sold for 453,000 JPY, something like $ 3,966 USD at the current exchange rate. With this it becomes one of the most expensive copies of this version of The Legend of Zelda.
But what is it that makes it so expensive? Is it stamped and signed by Shigeru Miyamoto or something? Not really. Although it cannot be doubted that it is a copy in good condition, what makes it special is that it has a sticker with the Myojo Foods Charumera ramen logo.
Don’t think the sticker appeared there because a ramen maniac put it on. What happens is that it is a copy of The Legend of Zelda that was given away as part of a contest that the ramen brand held in 1986. On that occasion, only 1,500 copies of The Legend o Zelda for the Famicom Disk System, but also gave away consoles with the brand’s logo.
Interestingly, although it is a rarer version of The Legend of Zelda, this variant was not always considered so expensive. It is said that in some stores in Japan it was sold for much less. There are indications that people paid up to $ 313 USD until a few years ago, which is a considerable increase in its price.
Now, you also have to take into account that the prices of retro games have skyrocketed considerably in recent years. So it is not surprising what happened to this cartridge. It only remains to see if it was a legitimate sale or someone trying to inflate its price.
