Dinopithecus is the latest primate to be added to the Ark Dinosaur roster and found on the new Lost Island map. This poo-throwing fighter is a fast climber and can throw grenades and fecal matter that disable TEK, and even climb cliffs and trees.
What you will need to tame the Dinopithecus
- Raw lamb, longrass or other veggies, or exceptional croquettes placed in the last slot of your Quick Access Bar.
- A weapon – the higher the damage, the easier it will be to tame.
- Height, either by a platform, cliff or using a grappling hook on a crossbow.
How to tame the Dinopithecus
Dinopithecus are passive domesticated; however, they are very different from any other passive tamer in the game. First of all, the only member of the troop that can be tamed is the Alpha Dinopithecus, which can be identified by a glowing aura around their bodies. Second, you must scare and earn the Alpha’s respect before you can tame him. Note that the juveniles that are carried on the back of Beta members and Beta members are not tame at all.
You will have to kill all the Betas around the Alpha before you can tame the Alpha. This is where your height advantage comes in, whether it’s grabbing onto a tree or climbing higher than its hitbox, you can safely shoot dinosaurs without getting killed.
Once all the Betas have been eliminated, you will need to drop the Alpha below 85% of your HP. If you have a very high damage weapon and the Alpha level is lower, be careful not to accidentally kill it. Once the Alpha is below 85% HP, move closer to the Alpha and press “E” to feed it the kibble or other foods you have selected. If it’s a higher level, you may need more kibble or food.
