As if the harassment, discrimination and toxicity scandals weren’t enough, Ubisoft is now in the middle of another controversy. This time for its recent announcement of Ubisoft Quartz, an initiative with which it will integrate NFTs into its games.

The news was not well received at all and the company even had to hide the video of the reveal due to poor reception. The situation is worse than it seems, as once again Ubisoft showed that it does not have good communication with its employees.

The reason? Some of its workers lashed out at the arrival of non-fungible tokens to games, as they do not agree with the proposal. In addition, they explained that they are not even clear about how Ubisoft Quartz will work and what their contributions will be.

Ubisoft employees speak out against their NFTs project

Thanks to a report from KotakuWe know that Ubisoft Quartz’s announcement puzzled several studio employees, who filled the company’s internal social media with questions about the project.

The developers have doubts about how the NFTs will help them solve certain studio problems and are concerned that they will now have to forcibly integrate the technology into their current and future games.

Unlike the managers, the developers believe that Ubisoft Quartz’s announcement only made the company’s current situation worse, adding more negative publicity to the snowball that has been created in recent years.

“I still don’t really understand the ‘problem’ that is being solved here. Is it really worth the (extremely) negative publicity this will cause? (…) How can you look at private property, speculation, artificial scarcity and selfishness, and then say ‘yes, this is good, I want that, let’s put it in art?’ “Say some comments from the developers.

Other employees described the announcement as “disturbing” and as a disaster that could further ruin the reputation of Ubisoft, which has been on the tightrope for months.
