After a year in which Latin America surprised the world in the competitive scene of VALORANT, Riot Games has revealed that our region will undergo major changes that will help it continue to accelerate the development of esports in 2022.
Here we share the most important news:
New regional leagues for VALORANT Challengers
Now, the Challengers division will be played in a league format rather than a series of separate tournaments.
In 2022 there will be a Challengers league with the top 6 teams from the North and another with the top 6 teams from the South, Riot explained.
In other words, we will have regular matches between the best teams in Latin America every week.
2 competitive stages
In addition, there will no longer be 3 competitive stages but the season will be divided into 2 phases.
Each competitive stage will begin with an open qualifier, will continue with a Challenger League for each hemisphere and will culminate in a face-to-face final in which the best teams from the North and South will face off.
Those who win the final will become representatives of Latin America in the Masters. Speaking of international tournaments, there will be 2 Masters – one for each stage -, a Last Chance Qualifier and the Champions will close the competitive year.
This year $ 120,000 USD was distributed but, in 2022, the prize pool will be $ 160,000 USD.
Each competitive stage will distribute $ 80,000 USD between the North and South. Naturally, the juiciest rewards will be in the playoffs.
If you are interested in participating, team registrations are already open at the VCT 2022 official site.
