The Lord of the Rings The Card Game gets new starter decks

Fantasy Flight Games has announced the release of new The Peoples of Middle-earth-inspired starter decks for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game.

Designed to help beginning players learn to play the Living Card Game, the starter decks for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game are each based on a different nation in Middle-earth.

By having one of the four new starter decks, players can start playing The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game, as long as they have access to a copy of the base game, without the need to build decks, they can also customize their Pre-built decks using several of the included bonus cards. Players can expect to see many iconic characters from Tolkien’s book series, such as Boromir, Galadriel, Ori, and Eomer.

While Durin’s Dwarfs starter deck is built around the deck exploration gameplay mechanic, which allows players to draw through their deck to find specific cards, and have heroes that work well with others. Dwarf characters, the Elves of Lórien starter deck focuses on using cards that trigger abilities as they are played, and helping players kick off some strong combos from those card abilities, which makes for a faster deck that relies on players to schedule their plays to get the most out of them.

On the other hand, the two human decks, the Defenders of Gondor and the Horsemen of Rohan, offer players playstyles designed around risk-taking. After a history of siege by various enemy forces, the people of Gondor have become an expert in the art of surviving attacks. As such, its starter deck performs best when the player is between a rock and a hard place, with multiple cards granting greater benefits when threat levels are at their highest. Otherwise, players can adopt the Horsemen of Rohan starter deck and use their skirmisher playstyle. The people of Rohan, famous for their cavalry, specialize in charging into combat, before falling back to conserve their forces.

First released in 2011, The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game, which recently received a new revised version so that new players can easily get started in cooperative play, was the first Living Card Game created and in it the Players work together to save Middle-earth from the forces of Sauron.
