Despite the criticism he received, Death Stranding It met with the approval of many Hideo Kojima fans, who were delighted with some of the game’s mechanics. PlayStation and Sony Interactive Entertainment also set their sights on one element of the game, to the extent that they tried to patent it.
The companies started the process months before the game was originally due to debut on PlayStation 4. Now, the patent has finally been approved, so a striking piece of Death Stranding It is already in the hands of Sony, which would make it difficult to appear in projects of other companies.

Sony and PlayStation patented element of Death Stranding
The currently approved registration was made with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Sony now has in its hands what it calls “terrain radar and gradual construction of a route in a virtual environment of a video game.”
This refers to the mechanics of road construction that has Death Stranding, where a player can modify the space to create routes that other users can use. The patent suggests that Sony has ideas for applying such mechanics in future projects, but nothing has been confirmed.
On the other hand, this will make it difficult for other studios to use a similar system in their games, since now the idea belongs to Sony and PlayStation, which could take legal action against whoever uses it without their authorization.
The document recognizes Hideo Kojima as the inventor of mechanics, which involves collaboration and asynchronous gameplay, one of the greatest attractions he offered Death Stranding. The patent does not necessarily imply that it will soon be used in a new PlayStation or Kojima game.
