How to create a JPG from a Word document

Microsoft Word is among the most comprehensive text editors available today. It is equally ubiquitous on Windows PCs and Mac. As powerful as it is, it lacks the ability to convert documents directly to JPG and other image file formats. The Paste Special function is the closest MS Word has to the proper JPG conversion tool.

However, there are simple ways to fix this problem. Let’s explore how to create a JPG image from Word on PC and Mac.

personal computer

If you want to create a JPG image from a Word document on a Windows PC, there are two ways to do it without resorting to online conversion sites. The first method includes saving your Word document as a PDF. The other method is Word’s built-in function that can allow you to save documents as image files (images). Let’s take a closer look at each method.

PDF path

For the PDF path, along with MS Word, you will also need Microsoft’s PDF to JPEG application. It’s free and you can find it at Microsoft Official Site or through the Microsoft Store app. Please note that you will need to sign in to your Microsoft account to download it.

  1. Inicie MS Word.
  2. Click the File tab and browse for the file you want to convert to PDF.
  3. Once you open the document, click the File tab again.
  4. Click the Save As option on the left side menu.
  5. Select the location where you want to save your file.
  6. Give your file a name and select PDF from the Save as type drop-down menu.
  7. Click the Save button.

If you haven’t already, now is the perfect time to download and install the PDF to JPEG application. Follow these steps:

  2. If you have Windows 10 or 8, start typing. If you have an older version, click the search box. Type Store.

  4. Then click the Select Folder button. It’s next to Select file.
  5. Find the folder where you would like to save your new JPG and click the Select Folder button once you have found it.
  6. Finally, click the Convert button to transform your PDF to JPG.

Paste special path

For the Paste Special path, you will only need two MS Word documents, one with the content you want to save as an image and another blank document. This path is a good choice if you only want to save part of a Word file as JPG. Let’s see how it works.

  1. Inicie MS Word.
  2. Find the file that contains the text or images that you want to save as JPG. Open the file.
  3. Then select the content you would like to convert. In case you want to save the whole document, press Ctrl + A on your keyboard.
  4. Right-click on the selected content and select Copy.
  5. Open a new blank document.
  6. Click the arrow below the Paste button. The button is located just below the File tab on the main menu.
  7. Select the Paste Special option from the drop-down menu.
  8. Then choose Image (Enhanced Metafile) format from the list. You must check the option button Paste.
  9. Click on the OK button.
  10. Your selection will be pasted into the new document as an image. Right click on it.
  11. Select the Save as Image option from the drop-down menu.
  12. Select the location of your new file.
  13. Give your file a name.
  14. Select JPEG File Interchange Format from the Save as type drop-down menu.
  15. Click the Save button.
