How to pair a Google Home with an iPhone

Google Home is a great addition to any modern home. With a host of features and controls, Google Home can help you keep track of your schedule, smart home devices, and more.

Want to set up Google Home on your mobile device but not sure if something designed for Android will work on your Apple iPhone? Although the process can be tricky, it is quite possible that the Google Assistant will set up and work on your iPhone.

Then let’s get started.

Google Home for iPhone

Google Home, in fact, works on iPhones. What you need to do first is download the Google Home app on your device to get started. This is, of course, assuming you have already purchased a Google Home to use.

You will need to have Google Home already set up and operational within your home before we worry about the app. If you just bought it and received it, take it out of the box and plug it into a constant power source. In this way, the process of linking Google Home with your iPhone will go smoothly.

Downloading the Google Home app

Once you have connected and turned on Google Home, we can get the Google Home app from the iPhone app store.

You will need to:

  1. Turn on your iPhone and tap on the App Store application.
  2. Do a search for “Google Home.”
  3. Once located, touch the Get and use your access code for the account or confirm your identity with Touch / Face ID. The choice will depend on the option you have configured and have available.
  4. Once your identification has been confirmed, the app will begin downloading and installing on your iPhone.
  5. After the application installation is complete, Opened The button to the right will appear.
  6. Tap on the Opened to start the Google Home application.
    • If you left the screen and went back to the home screen, you can also find the app there. Just tap the icon to start it.

Now is the time to set up Google Home and connect it to your iPhone.

Connecting Google Home to your iPhone

With Google Home connected to a power source and the app installed on your iPhone, the next step is to pair with each other. This requires both devices to be turned on and a WiFi connection is available.

To begin the pairing process:

  1. Launch the Google Home app on your iPhone and tap Start which will be located in the lower right corner of the screen.
  2. Select the Gmail account that you will attach to your Google Home and then tap on OK. This will put your iPhone in motion to search for nearby Google Home devices.
    • Once a device is found, your iPhone will alert you by declaring “Google Home found.” Then it will connect to the device.
  3. Tap next at the bottom right of the screen to begin Google Home setup.
  4. The new screen will require you to select the WiFi network that your Google Home will use. Find and choose the desired WiFi network and then tap next in the lower right corner of the screen.
  5. This screen will ask you to enter the access code or passphrase for your WiFi network. Once entered, click Connect.
    • Your Google Home is now connected to your WiFi network. All that remains is to set up your Google Assistant.
  6. Google will ask you to confirm the permissions to use your device information, voice activity, and audio activity. To continue, touch Yes.
    • You do not have to touch Yes if the choice makes you uncomfortable. However, to get the most out of your Google Home experience, you’ll want to meet these requirements.
  7. Here comes the fun part. Teach the Google Assistant to recognize your voice for commands. On the screen you will find some prompts to read aloud. Read each of them clearly and out loud for the Google Assistant to understand and process.
  8. After voice matching is complete, touch Continue on the right side of the screen to advance the rest of the process.
  9. Now you can choose the voice of your Google Assistant. There are a few to choose from based on your language preferences.
    • Google Home added 6+ new voices to its list starting in 2018. Go ahead and give them a spin until you find the one you like best.
  10. After choosing the Google Assistant voice, you will be asked to enter your address and add any music streaming service you want to your Google Home.
  11. Lastly, your Google Home may need to install some new updates in case any are available. This will only take a few minutes, so it won’t be long before you put all your hard work into action.
  12. After the update, your Google Home will connect to your iPhone. At this point, you can go ahead and start giving your Google Home verbal commands.

Link your Google home with BlueTooth

If you don’t want to use the Google Home app, or don’t have the option, you can still pair the two devices using BlueTooth. Pairing your iPhone with your Google Home device is simple.

Pair using Google Home voice command

First, with the voice command, say “Ok Google, Bluetooth pairing”. Your Google Home device will automatically enter pairing mode. Then follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone and tap on Bluetooth.
  2. Towards the bottom of this window, you will see ‘Available Devices’. Tap on your Google Home device.
  3. Although it may take a moment, your devices will pair.

Now you can play your music or audio through your Google Home using the controls on your iPhone.

Pair using the Google Home app

Another option to pair your devices via BlueTooth is to use the Google Home app as we explained above. This method is also simple, but you will need the Google Home app, a Gmail account, and an internet connection to complete the following steps.

  1. Open the Google Home app and tap the Home icon in the lower left corner.
  2. Touch the device you would like to pair with your iPhone.
  3. In the upper right corner, tap the settings gear.
  4. Touch “Audio.”
  5. Tap “Paired Bluetooth Devices.”
  6. Touch to enable pairing on your Google Home device.

That’s all about it! Fortunately, Google Home is perfectly compatible with iOS devices. Regardless of your preferred operating system, you can still have access to everything Google Home has to offer.
