‘The Boys’ animated spin-off series ‘Diabolical’ coming to Prime Video

Are you ready for a spin-off of Amazon’s Prime Video series? Boys is that downright diabolical? Well get ready, because as just announced at CCXP Worlds 2021 in Brazil, the streamer has picked up an eight-episode animated anthology series, titled Diabolical, set in the world of the cheeky superhero. And unlike the mothership series, which is guided by showrunner Eric Kripke, Diabolical will feature a group of stars addressing the stories, including: Awkwafina, Garth Ennis, Eliot Glazer and Ilana Glazer, Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, Simon Racioppa, Justin Roiland and Ben Bayouth, Andy Samberg and Aisha Tyler.

“Surprise! We are almost done with eight episodes of our animated series, DiabolicalKripke said through a statement provided to Jugo Mobile. “We gathered some amazing creators and gave them a rule… just kidding, there are no rules. They blew the doors off, delivering eight completely unexpected, funny, shocking, gory, wet, and emotional episodes. Do you think Boys is it crazy? Wait till you see this.

Executive producers and writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg added: “Since we saw the animated film La animatrix, a series of animated short films set in the universe of Matrix, we wanted to rip him off. Today that dream has come true. “

The new spin-off was announced via a prerecorded message from Boys star Karl Urban, which you can see above, as well as revealing a title treatment that shows Urban’s character Billy Butcher the Terror dog licking his own testicles. The dog, not Urban. Just to be clear.

This is actually the second derivative of the rapid expansion Boys universe, based on the comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. In addition to the third season of Boys, which finished filming in September, is a still-untitled spinoff set at a university run by the megacorporation of series Vought, which is sold as’ Part college program, part The Hunger Games. »Also, a web series called Vought News Network has been released monthly online and teases upcoming events in the world of Boys. A Boys after-show llamado Prime Rewind: The Boys It premiered after the series’ second season, though it has not been announced if it will return for season 3.

All of this comes on the heels of Prime Video amplifying its geek content, thanks to the success of other comic-based series. Invincible (which has been picked up for a second and third season), and the current The wheel of time, which seems like an early hit for the Amazon service. Oh and there is all this The Lord of the rings series that will premiere in late 2022 to look forward to, as well as a bevy of other comic book-based projects in development.

“Expanding the universe of Boys it has been an amazing journey. Fans will get completely new stories, with all the fun and outrageous humor of Boys they know and love, plus some big surprises, “said Vernon Sanders, director of television at Amazon Studios. «Eric, Seth and Evan have gathered incredible talent to contribute Diabolical to life, and we can’t wait for our Prime Video customers to see this wild new journey.

«Eric, Seth and Evan continue to flip the superhero genre and Diabolical it’s another fun and disruptive example, “added Jeff Frost, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios. «We are excited for the public to experience Boys universe in this new environment «.
