Jubilee may be recast for X-Men 1997 reboot, actor hints

Alyson Court, who voiced Jubilee in X-Men: the animated series, suggests that the character can be modified to reboot. It was recently announced, as part of Disney + Day, that the classic show from the 1990s would be revived as, X-Men ’97, and which would be released in 2023. Continuing the story of its predecessor, Marvel Studios will produce the reboot. Beau DeMayo will serve as the lead writer on the project, with original showrunners Eric and Julia Lewald and director Larry Houston serving as advisors on the series.

In addition to the continuity behind the camera, several voice actors from X-Men: the animated series it will come back for reboot. Although, according to the Marvel announcement, some artists will lend their vocal talents to new characters. The show’s set was a big part of its success, as it helped familiarize a generation of viewers with iconic comic book creations like Wolverine, Storm, and Magneto. It also helped bring popular supporting characters like Jubilee to the forefront, who was given a somewhat different backstory and shown to have a close relationship with Gambit.

Responding to fans on Twitter, court made it clear that she would be involved in the Disney + reboot, but that she would not be voicing Jubilee. In his response, Court refers to a tweet he made in June last year. At the time, the actress expressed her support for a reboot of X-Men: the animated series but he emphasized that the character should be recast with an Asian voice actor. The sentiments reflected an ongoing conversation about white actors voicing minority characters and thereby depriving blacks, Asians, and other voice actors of a job and financial opportunity that they would otherwise receive. The conversation played animated shows, such as Central Park, The Simpsons, and Family man, which led to frank discussions within the voice acting community.

And, in terms of Jubilee, which has had long-standing popularity, the change could lead to a positive change in terms of representation. In her live-action appearances, and most notably played by Kea Wong and Lana Condor, fans had asked that the character get her own standalone project. X-Men: the animated series It may well turn out to have the same result when it premieres on Disney +, leading to spin-off calls and sequels of all kinds. It will be a great opportunity for the actor chosen to take on the role.
