How to edit or change a Snapchat story after posting

Besides the snapshots you can send to other users, Stories are the most important aspect of the Snapchat experience. Each story is an image or a video that you post publicly on your account and has a duration of 24 hours after it is published. Unfortunately, there is no way to edit a story after it has been published as you can only share or delete it. However, Snapchat allows you to edit what is called Memory.

What are memories and how to edit them?

Memories consist of all the stories and snapshots you have saved. By saving a post as memory, you can view it along with other photos and videos in your device’s storage space. Most importantly, you can edit Memories and post them as snapshots, stories, or messages to individual people. That’s how:

  1. Open Snapchat.
  2. If you’re not already on the camera screen, go there by tapping the big circular button at the bottom of the screen.
  3. To access your memories, tap the button next to the shutter button. Alternatively, you can swipe up anywhere on the screen.
  4. In the Memories menu, choose whether you want to view all the images saved on your device or only a certain group of images, such as just stories or just snapshots.
  5. Touch the image you would like to edit.
  6. Keep your finger on the screen until a menu appears asking what you would like to do with the image or video.
  7. In the next menu, choose the Edit setting option.
  8. This will take you to edit mode. Let your imagination run wild!

Note: By choosing Export Snap, you can send it to someone using an app other than Snapchat, while the Send Snap option allows you to easily send it to someone on Snapchat or post it as a story.

Editing options

Obviously, there are many things you could do with your stories. You can trim videos as well as split them. All other options can be used for both videos and photos. Snapchat allows you to add filters in the same way that you would add them on Instagram, scrolling through the collection by sliding your finger left and right. A vertical toolbar will also appear on the right side of the screen, allowing you to:

  1. Write something. You can choose the color and style of the text. You can also open the Type menu just by touching the screen, as long as you don’t touch an object you created while editing. If you touch a text object that you have already created, you can modify it.
  2. Resize an object or rotate it. Do this by holding it while also using another finger. Swipe in one direction to zoom in or out, or swipe in a circular motion to rotate. This applies to all objects, not just textual ones.
  3. You can choose a color, but this function can also serve as an emoji brush, allowing you to put many emojis wherever you want at once. Besides this, you can also change the brush size.
  4. Add a sticker to your plugin. In addition to the usual options like recently used stickers, a search option, etc., you can also add a sticker that you just made by tapping on the scissors icon. This is also a good way to add a single emoji and modify it.
  5. Make a decal with a part of the image of your choice. Do this by selecting an object with the selected scissors. Hold to make a selection and release when you’re done.

After releasing the selection, the newly created label will appear on your screen instantly. You can delete it by tapping and holding it, then taking it to the trash that appears later. You can also delete any other object in this way.
  6. Add up to a URL to your plugin.
  7. The clock icon allows you to set how long your snap stays on the screen once opened. You can assign a limit from one second to ten seconds or simply remove the limit.
