Pathfinder Arena will adapt the popular fantasy RPG into a race to escape a dungeon full of deadly challenges and monsters. The game is currently in the midst of a kickstarter funding campaign.

Pathfinder Arena is a board game designed for 2 to 4 players, with a recommended age from 12 years, and with games of a variable duration that ranges between 60 and 80 minutes

The project stems from a partnership between Pathfinder and Starfinder publisher Paizo and Italian company Giochi Uniti. The latter locates Pathfinder products, along with a wide range of popular and best-selling board games such as Carcassonne, Catan, Arkham Horror, and Ticket to Ride. Although it was first introduced in 2021 at conventions, the Giochi Uniti team says they have been developing Arena for several years.

This time around, players will compete against each other to defeat monsters or launch them against their opponents within the ever-changing environments of the Arena. All four heroes have unique abilities, along with their own deck of cards that can be created and modified throughout the game.

Pathfinder Arena, face your monsters or throw them against your rivals

A crucial element of the Arena is the rearrangement of the tiles that make up the game board, altering the composition of the game board and possibly inadvertently moving an attacking monster out of the way of an opponent.

Based on the canonical world of Pathfinder during the Age of Lost Omens, veteran RPG players will see familiar faces on both sides of the conflict: Valeros the fighter, Merisiel the rogue, Ezren the wizard and Kyra the cleric will face monsters. Pathfinder classics like minotaurs, goblins, and even a huge red dragon. All of them will be represented by plastic miniatures that fit onto the checkered board of the Arena.

During four successive rounds they will have to face an increasing number of enemies, whose composition changes with each game and prevents the cunning heroes from getting ahead of the challenge. As the opponent grows tougher, players will need to level up their heroes by collecting skill tokens found throughout the Arena, giving them access to higher stats and more cards for their skill and spell deck. .

Pathfinder Arena will not use dice or attempt to incorporate RPG elements into its design. The creators say on the crowdfunding page that they wanted to design a competitive board game with tile-changing mechanics and believed that Pathfinder’s style and world would fit well, aesthetically.

The Pathfinder Arena Kickstarter campaign It will be active until December 13, and patrons can get a basic copy of the board game for 100 euros. The company hopes to be able to ship the games from November 2022.
