Beyond its irreverent humor and open worlds full of life, Grand Theft Auto is famous for having excellent quality licensed soundtracks that make an appearance on car radios and other instances of adventure. In that sense, popular and successful singer Abel Tesfaye, better known by his stage name The Weeknd, is no stranger to the open world franchise and recently confessed that the soundtrack of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City represented a great influence on his musical style.

This week, the Canadian musician and Max Martin, the song’s co-producer and co-writer, held a interview with Billboard where they talked about the philosophy behind the single Blindind Lights.

At one point in the talk, The Weeknd brought to the table the great influence he had Grand Theft Auto: Vice City in his music and how thanks to this Rockstar Games title he was able to listen to many songs from the 1980s.
