Arc System Works reveals new DNF duel trailer

From the developer behind the acclaimed Guilty Gear series, the Dungeon and Fighter RPG franchise is being reborn as a 2.5D fighter with DNF Duel.

World phenomenon Dungeon Fighter Online is being reinvented as a fighting game, thanks to the development teams at Neople, Arc System Works, and Eighting. Nexon will act as editor of Duel DNF.

While the game was announced in December of last year, not much has been heard of so far. Now an awesome looking trailer has been released along with new Twitter and Facebook accounts.

Dungeon Fighter Online is a hugely popular MMO with over 700 million registered users. Taking a unique approach to the MMO genre, Dungeon Fighter Online is a 2D side scrolling fighting game. It was developed by Neople and initially released in Korea in August 2005. From there, it spread to Japan, China, Taiwan, and finally North America in 2010. The PC game alone has grossed over $ 15 billion since its inception. and has become one. of the highest grossing IPs of all time. In addition to the game, which can be played for free on Steam or through a separate client, Dungeon Fighter Online has generated a manga and an anime.

Arc System Works will likely be recognized by many people for their work in the field of 2D fighting. They have served as developers and editors behind several of the biggest series in the genre, including Culprit mechanism and BlazBlue. Founded in 1988, Arc System Works has become one of the best known names in the fighting market and has also taken on projects such as Persona 4 Arena and Dragon Ball Fighter Z.

The trailer shows an incredible 3D animation set in a 2.5D fighting style, which could be compared to Capcom’s work with Street Fighter 4. Five characters are shown, including Berserker, Inquisitor, Striker, Grappler, and Ranger. The trailer description promises additional fighters once the game is released. The action is striking and intense. Although only one stage is shown, the background is colorful and full of life, as are the characters that occupy it.

Arc System Works is known for making more technical fighting games. If this trend continues for Duel DNF it may not be attractive to a wider audience. That said, the initial Dungeon Fighter Online it eventually developed mass market appeal. So who knows, this may just be the title to bring the stagnant fighting genre to life. Or it could be a title that meets the needs of a dedicated few. Either way, the little that has been shown has been widely praised and looks amazing.

DNF Duel does not have a release date at this time.
