Xbox recently updated more than 70 classic games to improve backward compatibility on your newer systems. The improvements broadly affect performance; many titles that originally ran at 30 fps now work at 60 fps. However, the company announced that no new backward compatible games will be added due to technical and rights issues and we got the news today that they also do not plan to implement the FPS Boost improvements to other games, at least in the near future. This was revealed by Jason Ronald, Xbox’s director of project management, in an interview for Iron Lords.
Broadly speaking, Ronald revealed that Xbox does not plan to bring the FPS Boost improvements to more backward compatible games in the near future. Although from Xbox they always study the possibilities to improve their old games on new consoles, the techniques they work with have reached their limit. In other words, if the techniques are applied to some specific games, they can work but in the long run they cause problems and turn out to be unplayable. “We are always looking for new ways that we can improve titles, whether it be boosts, frame rate enhancements, things like Auto HDR“.
“Right now, with the existing technique that we have with FPS Boost, we have tested much more than the 130 titles that have FPS Boost and, in some cases, the vast majority of the game works great, but then we encountered a game-breaking bug“explained Ronald.” We will continue to look for new opportunities and new ways to improve titles, but we have nothing in the immediate future Right now, I think we are finding some of the limitations of our current technique, “he concluded. Although Xbox is currently at a dead end on this issue, the truth is that FPS Boost is one of the more attractive features for gamers on their consoles.
