Two months after its release on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam, the sci-fi first-person shooter Deathloop is coming to the Epic Games store.
Psuedo PlayStation 5 exclusive timed title Deathloop is coming to the Epic Game Store. While there is no release date at this time, the announcement comes only a few months later. Deathloop initially released on PlayStation 5 and Steam.
The news comes through a listing for Deathloop in the Epic Games store. Deathloop initially released on September 14, 2021 for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam.
Despite being bought by Microsoft in 2020, Deathloop’s publisher Bethesda Softworks still had a timed exclusivity deal with Sony when it came to consoles. The console timed exclusivity agreement is scheduled to last for one year. Despite not having a solid release date, Deathloop is listed as “coming soon” in the Epic Games store.
Deathloop It was developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. Previously, Arkane Studios had developed the Deshonrado series together with The press. The story of Deathloop follow two assassins trapped on the mysterious island of Blackreef. The player character, Colt, must assassinate eight targets called Visionaries before midnight. If he fails in his task or is killed by his rival, Julianna, the time cycle is reset. Aside from the unique story concept, an equally intriguing multiplayer element was introduced with players being able to take on the role of Julianna and ‘invade’ other players’ games.
Deathloop received critical acclaim for its unique gameplay elements. The initial announcement, prior to Microsoft’s purchase of Bethesda and Arkane, was that the title would come to PlayStation 5 and PC. Upon finalizing the purchase, Phil Spencer of Xbox Game Studios said the deal would not affect Deathloop’s timed exclusivity and that the title would reach consoles a year later. While the game has been on PC for a few months, it’s funny if there was another exclusivity deal with Steam as well, or if a deal just couldn’t be reached so far with Epic Games.
Timed exclusivity deals are a necessary evil in the gaming world. It provides developers with additional revenue to finance games, while console makers such as Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo are trying to grab sections of the market for themselves. While it can be annoying for consumers who need to buy each console in order to play all the titles they may be interested in, it promotes some diversity and keeps console prices competitive with each other.
If all games were available on all platforms, there is little incentive for console makers to innovate and keep prices relatively low for the latest console. Regardless, this announcement should be good news for anyone who has wanted to play. Deathloop but they couldn’t find a PlayStation 5 or, for whatever reason, they chose not to buy it on Steam.
Deathloop It is available now for PC and PlayStation 5.
