This viral bug from GTA 3 has survived from the original game to GTA the Trilogy

Surely by now many of you have already seen the famous video of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition in which a vehicle moving from side to side gradually widens to a ridiculous shape. Many people have attributed this funny bug to the bugs with which the remastered Rockstar Games triloga has been released, but the truth is that this bug was already in the original version from Grand Theft Auto III which was published 20 years ago.

Below you can see it bug in new version from Grand Theft Auto III:

And under these lines you can see the same bug in the original version of Grand Theft Auto III, which means that this bug has been in the game for its 20 years on the market:

A bug that has survived 20 years

It is actually an error that requires performing a series of previous actions: get a taxi, get out of it while holding down the button to activate the driver missions, get into any other car to use it as a taxi and catch a passenger. Then we will have to go to a specific point in the Harwood neighborhood, stop the vehicle with the driver’s door against a wall and try to get out of it. In this way the car in question will begin to fail such as being able to pass through objects and buildings, and also gradually increase its size, which we can accelerate if we move the vehicle quickly from side to side.

Now it only remains to wonder How has a bug of these characteristics survived for 20 years?, going through the multiple versions of Grand Theft Auto III that have been published and even reaching a remastered version that has been developed on a different engine than the original game. Some users have tried to give a technical explanation to this bug, explaining that could be due to a floating point error or the absence of maximum limitation of the modeling deformation, but any answer will be uncertain without being able to take a deep look at the code of the game.
