Unfortunately, in recent months Japan was involved in a series of tragic incidents that took place in trains and subway stations. Clearly, the current priority of Japanese railway companies is ensuring passenger safety, which is why they do not tolerate their employees using their smartphones during their shifts.
These measures, although at first glance seem extreme, are necessary. After all, some drivers handle bullet trains that can cover speeds of up to 200 miles per hour, which is why it’s critical that they be alert during their service.

That must have been had in mind by a driver on the Shinkansen, a popular high-speed rail network in Japan. Specifically, that person made headlines after it was discovered that he was using his mobile phone to play games while operating a bullet train.
The driver came very close to getting away with it
To the surprise of many, the 40-year-old man had been playing regularly with his smartphone for 10 years. It was not until earlier this month that an anonymous person posted a message on the East Japan Railway Company website where he reported that a Shinkansen driver was playing with his mobile phone.
This notice prompted the railway company to investigate the complaint, which led to the discovery of the driver’s secret. The 40-year-old man was reportedly playing with his mobile device while in the driver’s cab on November 6.

The Japanese driver confessed during interrogation that he started with this habit about 10 years ago and used to play between 10 and 20 times per trip. Although the name of the video game that the suspect was experiencing was not released, a branch of the East Japan Railway Company confirmed that the main mechanics of the game work through location (GPS).
Once this scandal came to light, the railway company published a statement addressing the situation.
“We prohibit the use of personal cell phones while on board, and we take this matter seriously. We provide staff with detailed instructions to prevent this event from happening again, ”reads the company’s statement.
