The Pokémon toothbrushing app just got its first update

The best and easiest way to catch Pokémon is to simply brush your teeth twice a day.

Pokemon Smile, the app designed to encourage kids to brush their teeth, has just received its first update.

The first thing that comes to mind for most people when you mention the Pokémon games is the main series. The games that started most people’s love for Pokémon, no matter where you got on board. Anywhere between red and blue from the late 90s to today’s sword and shield. However, the Pokémon game universe is much more than the main series.

Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Unite, and Pokemon Stadium are just a few of the other Pokemon games that were released during the 25-year franchise. Not to mention the biggest money generator of all, Pokemon Go. One that you may have forgotten is Pokemon Smile. An app that launched in 2020 that is supposed to encourage kids to brush their teeth.

It might be a bit of an exaggeration to call Smile a game. Kids, or adults, if they need a little encouragement while brushing their teeth, can use the app to see themselves brushing their teeth surrounded by adorable Pokémon. They then get a chance to catch them if they keep brushing their teeth, and now a new update has added a few more.

Despite its release over a year ago, this is the first update Smile has received. To be fair, a game that only helps kids brush their teeth doesn’t need a lot of maintenance. The patch notes reveal that new Pokémon and Pokémon caps have been added. Additional Pokémon that avid planers will now be able to catch include Smeargle, Ludicolo, Mime Jr., and Dedenne. There are also a number of bug fixes and the ability to modify various settings for different users.

Pokémon has been doing so much to celebrate 25 years that it has been difficult to keep up with everything that is going on in its ever-expanding world. Only the corner of the game has grown enormously and the best could be yet to come. Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will launch on Nintendo Switch later this month, and Legends: Arceus is still on track to be here in late January 2022.
