After a very negative reaction from users, Discord has stopped its intentions to add NFT integration to its popular messaging client.
A few days ago, Discord CEO and co-founder Jason Citron posted a screenshot anticipating that the app would include some support for non-fungible tokens in the future. Apparently the plan was to connect digital wallets like MetaMask and WalletConnect to their platform.
When people saw Citron’s tweet, many immediately assumed that Discord would likely start generating crypto or allow buying NFT. In any case, the response was terrible.
Hundreds of comments began to flood Citron mentions – some threatened to cancel their Discord Nitro subscription and take their money elsewhere. Others pleaded with the executive to consider the environmental damage that NFTs and cryptocurrencies cause, an issue that has become controversial in 2021.

A couple of days later, Citron posted a message trying to clarify the situation and calm the waters: “Thank you all for sharing your perspective. Currently, we have no plans to launch this internal concept. At the moment, we are focused on protecting our users from spam, scams and fraud ”, he commented
And then he added: “Web3 has many good things but also many problems that we must work on at our scale. There will be more news soon ”.
Not everyone was satisfied: Certain users pointed out that while NFT integration is not among the company’s close plans, that doesn’t mean it won’t happen at some point. For now, it only remains to wait for Discord to formally make its position clear to the NFTs.
