Familiar Tales is the new board game from Jerry Hawthorne, the creator of beloved titles like Mice and Mystics, to be released by Plaid Hat Games

Familiar Tales is a cooperative board game designed for 1 to 4 players, with a recommended age from 8 years, and with games of a variable duration that ranges between 45 and 120 minutes.

Set in a magical kingdom ruled by a royal family, players become a team of wizards tasked with protecting the heir to the throne. With the royal family struck down by “sinister forces”, players must escort the young man through the dangerous wild lands and away from danger. However, they will have to use all their magical power to stop the usurping sorcerer and thwart his evil plans.

As protectors of the princess, players will have to make various decisions that will shape the girl’s worldview, giving them a direct hand in shaping the future of the entire kingdom.

The cooperative deck-building game will unfold over several decades, with a companion app that will help players tell the story and make decisions along the way.

The companion app will include a narration as well as a musical score that players will be able to listen to. Throughout the game, player characters will gain experience that they can use to customize their skill card decks, which they can use to perform various actions in the campaign.

Players can collect resources that they can use to craft new items, weapons, and armor. You also have to save resources for the princess, because if she is not kept happy, strange things can happen.

Players will be victorious if they can bring the princess back to her throne safe and sound, and the lessons taught to her finally have their full effect.

In addition to Familiar Tales and Mice and Mystics, Hawthorne is also responsible for the design of the cooperative storytelling board game Stuffed Fables, in which players become the toys of a little boy in need of their help, as well as Aftermath, a game centered on a post-apocalyptic Earth where humans have disappeared and little critters have taken control.

Familiar Tales will be published by Plaid Hat Games, the original publisher of Mice and Mystics, along with the aforementioned Stuffed Fables and Aftermath, as well as another board game assisted by a narrative app called Forgotten Waters.

The release date of Familiar Tales is scheduled for January 2022, and the game will retail for about $ 80. At the moment there is no news of an edition in Spanish, although all the games of the publisher have arrived in our country by the hand of Asmodee Iberica.
