Konami withdraws Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3 from digital distribution

Konami has announced that from today Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will no longer be for sale in digital distribution of various systems. This mainly affects the remasters developed by Bluepoint with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 collection, but also the version Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D Nintendo 3DS and various cloud platform games.

The reason, far from being a preview of the rumored remake of these classics, is due to the non-renewal of licenses of various historical graphic material used in each game, video scenes in which you can see scenes of war, the dropping of atomic bombs or other documents that help set the background of their stories. “We ask for patience and understanding as we work to make these products available for purchase again,” the company said.

The affected games are the following:

PlayStation 3

  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty HD Edition
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater HD Edition
  • Metal Gear Solid HD Edition

PS Vita

  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty HD Edition
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater HD Edition
  • Metal Gear Solid HD Collection

Nintendo 3DS

The saga will return with some revisions

During this year it has been rumored that Metal Gear Solid hand in hand with BluePoint, currently a Sony studio, but the latest information points to MGS 3 with Virtuos, also used to adapting cross-platform games. The idea has been around in Konami for a long time and supposedly has gone through several phases, including using the Fox Engine – created to Metal Gear Solid 5– but Konami has ruled out this technology.
