For many years, fans criticized Marvel Studios for always following the same formula to make the films that make up its Cinematic Universe. It seems that the studio heard those comments and wanted to take a chance with Eternals, a tape that hit theaters this week with a lot of controversy due to certain elements related to the plot and its characters.
Specific, Eternals caused debate in the community, among many other things, for introducing the first openly homosexual superhero of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We are referring to Phastos, who is played by actor Brian Tyree Henry. Unfortunately, everything seems to indicate that the scenes of this character were the reason why some countries of the Persian Gulf made the decision not to show the film in their cinemas.
Inclusion in Eternals causes controversy around the world
Specifically, the Marvel film will not hit the big screen in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar. As reported by the portal VarietyThis seems to be a last-minute decision, since until not long ago the film was promoted normally for its premiere on November 11.
Even today, homosexuality is illegal throughout the Persian Gulf. For this reason, it is not surprising that films that include references to the LGBTQIA + collective and other taboo subjects are banned or, failing that, censored. Disney reportedly did not agree to modify the film.

Shortly after this controversy came to light, actress Angelina Jolie, who plays Eternal Thena in the film, voiced her opinion.
“I am sad for [esas audiencias]. And I’m proud of Marvel for refusing to cut those scenes. I still don’t understand how we live today in a world where there are still [personas que] They would not see the family that Phastos has and the beauty of that relationship and that love, ”the actress declared in an interview.
