Diego Maradona would be out of FIFA 22 y Ultimate Team
Thanks to a report from InfobaeWe know that Argentine authorities claimed Diego Maradona’s image rights in favor of Sattvica, Matías Morla’s company, who did not reach an agreement with EA for the appearance of the Pibe de Oro in their games.
Instead, everything indicates that the company made a deal with Stéfano Ceci, Maradona’s friend and former manager, to make it possible to have him in the game and use his image in Ultimate Team. However, Ceci could not prove that she had the legal rights to make these types of agreements.
A court determined that the owner of the image rights of the footballer is Sattvica, so EA would have to remove Maradona from its games and Ultimate Team, since it does not have a deal with said company.
“Under the responsibility of the petitioner and prior real surety that is set at the sum of $ 3,000,000, the precautionary measure requested with respect to ELECTRONIC ARTS INC is decreed to immediately cease the use of the indicated brands, which by any means found doing, and must also refrain from using said signs on the platforms through which it distributes FIFA 21, FIFA Ultimate Team, FIFA Street, FIFA World Class Soccer, Football Manager y EA Ultimate Player”, dice parte de papers of the case.
As of this writing, Electronic Arts has not mentioned anything about it and it is reported that Maradona’s card is still available in Ultimate Team. So we will have to wait to find out more about this situation.
